Meet Georgia Edwards, hailing from Hertfordshire, UK. Georgia’s journey with HyperionDev’s Cyber Security Skills Bootcamp exemplifies the transformative power of structured learning and mentorship in the tech industry. Let’s explore how her dedication and perseverance led her from the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry to a fulfilling career as a Junior Software Engineer.

Taking the leap: Embarking on a new journey in tech

Georgia had a background in the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry with no prior coding experience. However, fueled by a desire to venture into the tech world, she chose HyperionDev’s Cyber Security Skills Bootcamp to kick-start her journey into tech.

When asked about her motivation, Georgia shared, “I wanted to learn how to code and thought this would be a great way to get into the tech world.” During the TechHER webinar hosted in March 2024, she further elaborated, admitting,

“I was a bit afraid and I wasn’t sure how to do it and then I saw the course and I thought, you know what, I’ll give it a go.”

This leap of faith proved fruitful, as during the bootcamp, Georgia secured a position as a Junior Software Engineer at MBDA, specialising in test software. This not only validated her decision but also underscored the significance of taking calculated risks in pursuing one’s aspirations in the tech industry.

Conquering the fundamentals: Building blocks for success in software engineering

This transition to Junior Software Engineer marked a significant milestone in her career journey, showcasing the efficacy of our bootcamp in facilitating career shifts, even without prior technical experience.

Reflecting on her journey, Georgia emphasised the pivotal role of acquiring fundamental skills during the bootcamp, which provided a solid foundation to build upon.

“Once you’ve got the fundamentals, you can build on that in any [programming] language,” she highlighted during the TechHER webinar. Georgia’s experience exemplifies how mastering the basics can pave the way for adaptation and success in the ever-evolving landscape of technology.

Adapting to challenges and shifting mindsets

Navigating the challenges of balancing full-time work and bootcamp commitments, Georgia found solace in the supportive ecosystem provided by HyperionDev. With personalised mentorship and a structured curriculum, she honed her problem-solving skills and gained confidence in her abilities, allowing her to change her approach and mindset to tackle different coding projects.

When asked about a particular project, Georgia said:

“Creating a piece of software that was for a simple holiday booking system. I learnt about using multiple different functions to create this piece of software. It made me look at what was being asked in different ways as I didn’t initially understand the needs of the project.”

Empowering success: Georgia’s tech transformation

Georgia’s success story exemplifies the transformative power of education and mentorship. From a pharmaceutical background to a burgeoning career as a Junior Software Engineer, her journey embodies the ethos of HyperionDev – empowering individuals to pursue their passions and thrive in the ever-evolving tech landscape.
