George Michael Cireasa gained solid web development skills from studying and working in Romania, but when he moved to London he realised, to be a competitive candidate, he had to study further.
That’s when he signed up for the HyperionDev online, part-time Data Science Bootcamp. Shortly after graduating, he landed a coveted position as a software developer at the National Health Service (NHS). Read on to find out how being a HyperionDev graduate fast-tracked his coding career journey.
Honing his skills as a data scientist
Although George started his coding career as a front-end web developer, he decided to follow a course in data science due to the high demand for this career in the UK. The online bootcamp offered by HyperionDev is also one of our most sought-after courses, and the quality is such that our graduates are in high demand across the globe.
During the data science bootcamp, George learnt the fundamental skills in programming languages and tools that are popular in data processing, such as Python, sci-kit-learn, NumPy, Matplotlib and pandas. These skills are core to his daily work, and he built on them by going into more advanced data processing techniques, such as data modelling, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.
Data science is a promising career space to be in, with many cross-industry applications and the freedom to choose between careers because of the universal value of data science. George says:
“As a software developer in NHS, I will be able to use my previous skills as a web developer as well as the skills I learned during the data science bootcamp.”
The best of bootcamp – capstone projects
George most enjoyed the capstone projects part of his course. Capstone projects are a unique opportunity to carry out independent group research in order to devise an innovative solution for a real-world problem.
He developed a number of capstone projects to demonstrate his knowledge of Python programming language, working with SQL databases and Python libraries. These no doubt help him secure his current job at the NHS. George’s capstone projects (you can read more about them on his GitHub portfolio) were:
- Capstone project 1: Tasks management script with Python
- Capstone project 2: Exploratory data analysis on the Automobile Dataset
- Capstone project 3: Data Visualisation
- Capstone project 4: Bookstore management using a SQL database
- Capstone project 5: Image recognition classifier using the MNIST Dataset
- Capstone project 6: Unsupervised Machine Learning on the US Arrests Dataset
George was one of our top students and consistently received 100% for code reviews on his tasks. During his studies, he managed to develop two projects creating predictive models using machine learning algorithms. His advice for those who have switched to a career in tech or have become developers?
“Keep on learning, at least one hour per day.”
What the future holds for George
George says that his new role leaves space for him to continue studying, and his dream is to complete a Master’s degree in software development so that he can start building his career as a software developer in earnest. With his diverse skillset, we have complete confidence that his dream will come true and that he’ll be a great asset to any company.
Asked how he thinks code could change the world for the better, George says:
“Developing software will help us live a better life and solve issues faster and more efficiently.”
